A little about ADUs

As those who receive this newsletter know, educating my clients, current, former or future, is the most cherished element of my job.
I have spoken to many of you about the ever-evolving laws around the construction of the ADU (accessory dwelling unit).  I continue to be as excited about the value of the ADU as ever and now, with the new laws making the rules more flexible and the path to building more streamlined, I am ready to share my renewed enthusiasm with you!

My office recently hosted two experts in ADU construction, the architects, Inspired ADU's and the builder, Dan McDunn who specializes in building these mini-homes. These two often end up working together and the meeting was really informative. The primary message I want to convey to you is that there are almost no circumstances in which you cannot get a permit to build an ADU.

Instead of translating everything that was said at the meeting I am instead sharing the information that was shared with me since it is clear, concise and accessible. One of the most exciting things that I learned at the meeting is that Inspired ADU's takes every unique design and turns it into a Plan Set Package where a homeowner can purchase the plans at a much lower cost than having a unique design created. 

The ADU's built and designed by these two experts are not cheap and by no means are they the only game in town. Where there is a will, there is a way and it is always possible to save significant money if you do your research and take your time.
